SO MANY Doctors!
Molly has a lot of doctors! She had a lot of doctors rotating weekly or daily in the hospital and now that we are home we have a lot of different specialists.
Lets talk about doctors in the hospital first. I am very grateful for all of the wonderful and smart doctors in the intensive care that cared for Molly. They are all very knowledgable, but they all have slightly different opinions about what should be done, how quickly, and when. When you are in the hospital I think it is important to be present during rounds. You can get a lot of information. Both hospitals I was at were family centered meaning you can step out into the hall or the team of people can come into you and discuss the plan for the day or week. They always asked me if I had any questions at the end of their discussion and I always asked anything that I was wondering about. Something I noticed during this time... If I was wanting something to work itself out one way or another, I would often suggest what I was thinking or wanting and often the doctors would go that direction if it was possible. Being at rounds can be very beneficial.

Now let's talk about Doctors when you get out of the hospital. We have a pediatrician, a cardiologist, an eye doctor, a kidney doctor, the vent clinic which is her pulminologist, an ENT, and a gi doctor. Whenever you go in the car with a child with a trach and a vent you have to have two people in the car. Either my husband drives and I sit in the back with Molly in case she needs a suction or I will drive and a nurse will come with us and sit in the back with Molly. It took a little time and planning in order to go to all of these doctor appointments, but as long as you plan ahead and give yourself plenty of time these doctor appointments are doable. Make sure you stay in communications with allyour doctors, they can be very helpful in different situations.
We are also involved in a program called early on. Through early on we have a physical therapist, an occupational therapist, a speech therapist, and a teacher that all come to our home two to four times a month. This is such a great program!
